WOMEN RAISE ALARM OVER HIGH RATE OF MATERNAL DEATH

A group of concerned health workers Imo State have once again, drawn the attention of all stake holders to the rising maternal death in Nigeria which has left the Country second in the world behind India. Maternal death simply means the death of pregnant women during the gestation period, labour or forty-two days after birth.

LIFELINE24 spoke with the one of the nurses at the Federal Medical Center, Owerri; Francisca Daniels on the dominant causes, and she has this to say;

The major cause of maternal death remains obstetric hemorrhage which is the excessive bleeding during pregnancy, child labour or in the postpartum period. This is also the cause of nearly one quarter death of maternal death globally.

On the prevention, she ascertained that it is commonly controlled at the active management of the third state of labour which is why it is becoming dangerously out of order for deliveries to be handled by non professionals. she advised                                                                                                                                                                                                                        women to always seek professional attention throughout their gestation period; while enjoining the government to facilitate more primary healthcare centers across the communities..
